Wonderful weekend in Valencia in Spain covering GP3. Excellent weather, Two totally different podiums, essentially the winner has to come from the first 3 rows and if you make a good start and don't cook the tyres you are home and dry.

Nonetheless a few spinners and choice over takes made the races entertaining.

1. Valencia has to be one of the coolist tracks to pan at. Empty or full the grandstands make excellent backgrounds. #27 Aaro Vainio (FIN) - Koiranen GP

2. Some of the drivers hide away form the photographers others help their sponsors get maximum exposure. #16 Dino Zamparelli (GBR) - Marussia Manor Racing

3. #24 David Fumanelli (ITA) - Trident. In the "devil light" the races were held in the whites on the cars hard to keep under control.

4. #In contrast (groan making pun sorry) - the light for Free Practice held at 9:30 local time on saturday morning, was just about perfect.

5. I like the framing on this shot but cannot get it to "pop" yet .... more work required. #23 Giovanni Venturini (ITA) - Trident

6. Photo bombing by #2 Facu Regalia (ARG) - ART Grand Prix - Well not quite, he is stepping out of his race car having finished 2nd in race 2

7. #12 Alex Fontana (CHE) - Jenzer Motorsport - Essentially the same pan as shot 1 just a little earlier in the turn. Totally different mix of background to work with.

8. #2 Facu Regalia (ARG) - ART Grand Prix on the Grid for Race 2.

The only downside to the weekend was the photographer that seemed to always be on my shoulder coping the shots I was taking. Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery but by the end of the weekend I was getting a little fed up with it.

Hay-ho. The buyers decide .... CC, always welcome

Cheers Dave

Very nice. Something by the way that I only learned of recently: In GP2 and GP3, there is no prize money ! I suppose it's all paid for by sponsors and well-funded team owners.

By the way, I heard this from a reliable source (F1 Weekly.com), but if I've misspoken, please correct me.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Image 2 is part off a set done for the driver's sponsor. No point asking these guys to act like model and pose, so I turn in to a stalker with a long lens :-)

The tyre in 8 - they get 4 sets for the weekend. Qualification takes the best out of two sets. Free practice puts miles on another and then two races. At some point you are going out on an old set. As they all drive through the old rubber coming back in (extra weight) they can look totally knack erred on the grid. I did catch the Pirelli guy pointing to one of the drivers tyres on the grid for race 2. The gist of the conversation seemed to be ... That the best you have left?

Prize money ... I'm no expert but I think you are right. The drivers approach the teams for one of the seats and the teams have a price. If you are a massive talent and short of funds, there may be a deal to be done. If you are hopeful and fully funded, talent may not be a necessity.
