I currently have a sandisk ultra 60mb/sec 16gb card, which the camera test rates at writing at 59.1 mb/sec. to shoot full raw HD, the camera need something that rights at 79 I believe. what is the best available value there? I know a lot of ratings is read ratings.

Have you tested the card to see how it performs specifically for what you want to do?

There are a few other limits that may come into play. One for instance is a single clip limit of 4 GB file size. You can immediately start the camera recording once that limit is reached. There is also a limit for a single video clip based on sensor temperature. From a Canon manual, "the maximum recording time of one movie clip is 29 min. 59 sec. Depending on the subject and the increase in the camera's internal temperature, the movie shooting might stop sooner than 29 min. 59 sec." Obviously a slow card will not work for a 29 min plus video clip. So there are really three limits you can hit, one, the file size limit of 4 GB, two, the 29 min 59 seconds limitation imposed legally, and three, a sensor temperature issue that might also be reached in some rare circumstance.

thanks. I will test with my current card. in the meantime, eos hd hand a recommendation for a card. I shoot family, and clips are in 5-8 minutes length generally. I also have to see how much space raw video takes.

Video is remarkably undemanding on card speed. The 7D manual suggests 8 MB/s is enough for full 1080p at 30 fps.

Edit: D'oh, ignore me - I missed the word 'raw'.

just and update, yeah, I saw that. considered getting the memory card.
Some updates, as the site says, this thing is hugely memory intensive. 6gb/min of recording. so really a 64gb card is needed. then processing takes some time too. definitely nice to be able to pull the DR out of an image, reduce noise, and get overall sharper images, but for me this would be a once a ear or twice a year kind of a deal.
