Hey guys,
I just picked up 1Ds MK I version locally.
Brought it home and I noticed it does not focus at all and when it does it's out of focus.
I tried on different lenses but same symptoms.. I noticed with prime lenses at least AF locks (although it's off focus) and with zoom lenses AF can't lock at all..
I google searched this with no avail..

It could be set on back button focus! Look at that or reset everything to factory default.

Don't forget to also reset the custom functions. Just resetting the shooting functions will likely not help.

Thanks Guys. I did reset both custom & personal functions earlier but didn't help.
I looked up how to hard-reset to factory setting and someone suggested pressing WB+quality buttons together for 3 seconds but that didn't seem to reset the camera.

I was able to reset the body but unfortunately it didn't fix the AF issue..
I wonder if cleaning the censor will help?

Cleaning the sensor will not affect AF issues in any fashion.

I'm not sure that I understand your OP. What focus mode are you using? Does the lens "hunt" to try to find focus and just not ever lock, or does it just not turn at all? Do you ever hear a focus confirmation beep. Does the "focus acquired" green dot light up in the viewfinder?

Precise answers to these questions might help us to nail down what the problem is.

I used "one shot" AF mode. So for zoom lenses, they will continue to "hunt" and focus never really lock, strangely prime lenses will always hunt little bit and lock but pictures will always be out of focus and pretty badly too. I do hear a focus confirmation beep & "focus acquired" green dot will light up as well when focus does lock using prime lenses but they are always out of focus. I think censors are ok since pictures I took with manual focus came out very nicely. Maybe will changing focusing screen help? I tried to dust off mirrors & censors using rocket blower with no improvement...

A couple more questions:

1.) Are you using a single focus point or All Focus Points active(Auto Focus Point selection)?

2.) Are you using a "protection" filter on the lens?

Posting some pictures with EXIF attached would really help.

1) I tried both a single focus point & all focus points
2) I tried lenses with filters & without filters

I will post some pictures tonight after work with EXIF data.

Thanks Mark!

Here are two pictures I took this evening. First one was taken with AF and second one was taken with MF.

Yep, it appears to me to be front focusing pretty badly, but more precise tests should be performed in order to properly make that determination. HERE IS A THREAD with the procedure for diagnosing focus problems that you can try, if you wish. However, it might just be better to return the camera for a replacement or refund at this point since it is apparently not operating correctly.

If you can't get it fixed, and you can take it back I have one I'll sell you, it works great, I just don't use it any longer, I have a 1Ds MkII, and a 7D now, so don't need it.
