Ahhh, tmoore323, you just discovered the difficulty of shooting dance (and theatre): the lighting is full of hot spots, the white balance changes with every lighting change, you can never shoot as fast as you want to, they never hold the peak moments long enough, multiple dancers never look at the right place at the right time, multiple dancers are not fully synchronized, arms flail across the face at the precise moment you release the shutter, and they are never looking at you (or even in the same direction when there's more than one). I don't remember if you've shared dance photos before or not....

This one doesn't hold my attention as well as many of the others in your Flickr stream. With this shot, I don't know if she was holding the post or moving and/or dancing to fast or slow music. It might mean the world to her and her parents if it was her self-choreographed solo piece for her senior recital, but I can't get that from this shot.

You've shared shots that are sharp (often difficult to capture in the bad lighting). And some that have great group poses. If this was a performance, you were tied to your seat. With theatre, I try to shoot at least two of the dress rehearsals. The first is sometimes a spray and pray, but the second is when I can get key moments in the show. If you have a chance to shoot at the dress rehearsal, you might find that you have more latitude for leaving your seat and getting the angles that YOU want.

Thanks for sharing. I study others' stage photographs whenever possible. It helps me learn.

Image editing OK, encouraged, and expected. Thank you for helping me learn!
