Alright I managed to find a fox den. They seemed fine with me in the vehicle watching. When I got out to set my tripod up they went back into the den. I sat there for about ten minutes to see if they'd look out but they never did. I then left them alone for about twenty minutes and stopped back but they weren't out.

Should I sit in my vehicle for a couple of sessions so they get used to me? Or should I just set up shop a little ways away and see what happens?

If you have a good view from the vehicle, put a bean bag in the window and shot. That way they only have to get used to the vehicle...and not to humans moving around.

Thanks I may try that. I don't have a bean bag although I really should get one.

I recently found a fox den (posted a thread on it a few days ago) and found this to work.
The first day I got there at like 6am and when I walked up the fox pretty quickly went inside the den and didnt come back out. I got maybe a dozen quick shots.

The second time I went, a few days ago, I got out there before 5am, its was still pretty dark. They tolerated me walking much closer, setting a chair down, sitting in it and shooting them for about an hour and 20 min.

So, for the Kit fox out here I think getting there before its light is super important and being in place. It gets so hot here they go inside before 7am I assume.
Im going back out friday morning at 4am again to see if I can do better, my good friend is bringing his 500 f4 with 1.4tc so Im excited to get better pics!

Here is my thread on the Fox den I saw.

Thanks Jeremy! Nice pictures too. Man those foxes have huge ears.

I went out tonight to check on it and they were out running around a little ways away from the den. I manged to get a few snaps in before they disappeared into some tall grass. I'll be spending more and more time with them hopefully to get some nice shots.

Nice photos Jeremy. I got some really good photos the other night. When I get time I'll post them.

They like bread. I have hand feed a few wild foxes .

A can of tuna fish should bring them right out.
