I'm wanting a prime in this range and I keep going back and forth on the sigma 30 vs canon 28 1.8. I know this tread has been talked about a lot on the old Sigma 30. Has anyone used both the new Sigma 30mm art and the Canon 28 1.8? I like the idea of 1.4 but hate the idea of having to send back a new lens for calibration.

I wouldn't recommend the EF28mm 1.8. My lens is very soft with pictures wide open. It's either that, or I have bad camera shake. =[Just my opinion. I cant speak for the Sigma. And I shoot with a 5D II by the way.

The 30 is optically better and faster, as well as having better build. But is a bit more expensive.

You are much more likely than not to get a good working copy, and if you have doubts you can order the USB dock along with the lens to fix any MA issues, meaning you won't have to send it in for that.
