Sigma has been on a roll lately and I am thinking that with the lens calibration dock now released, it won't be long before we see some of Sigma's traditional offerings re-released under the new designations. Specifically, I'm thinking the 50 and the 85 are due for the treatment. I'm going to guess that we will have an announcement for the 50mm f/1.4 Art by the end of the year. What do you guys think?

I would have thought they would do some of there older lenses first, like the 24-70 etc, but they disproved that be replacing the 120-300 f2.8 sport which is replacing a lens only a few years old.

I think at the end of the day, everyone is going to want their favorite sigma lens to be the next to be re-released.

when they re-release I hope its full redesign, because currently one is really flawed with quality/reliability issues.

I'd quite like them to do a FF UWA with good corners. That would be interesting.

It's not an ultra-wide, but I'd love to see them make a 24mm f/1.4 Art that's in the same league as their 35mm f/1.4. :)

What is wrong with the current one? Mine is great, corners are a little soft but that isn't a biggy on 50mm.

Oh definitely. But the Canon 135L is already great, which is more than I can say for their FF UWA options.

The current one is already very good, as is the 85. So I would bet not for a bit. Most of their lineup needs a redo before those do. If they do something to it, expect them to fix the AF QC and just repackage them, they are optically good.

Think about this, there's a ton of stuff in their lineup that needs updated first:

--The 28 1.8, 24 1.8, 20 1.8. Those need updated really, really, badly. So badly. lol. They are an embarrassment.

--The 10-20 lineup is pretty good but could be simplified to one lens. They have no FF wide angle that takes filters, either, that needs fixed. The 12-24mm is good and the 8-16mm is superb, I'd expect to see those turned into the new style later though, round the same time as the 50 lol.

--The 24-70 2.8mm needs a makeover. They could remake it with their superb new glass and make it kick butt, it was released before that FLD stuff came out and needs a makeover long before the 50, probably.

--The 70-300 Sigmas are uhh...rather crap, honestly. Those need updated something awful. Second only to the wide primes, let's be honest here. These are also an embarrassment to the brand imho lol.

--The 150-500 and the 120-400 (less so). Let's be honest, optically these don't match up to the 50-500, not even close imho. They really need an update. Speaking of the 50-500 OS, it just needs a focus limiter and that's it.

--The 300 2.8, 500 4.5, 800, and 300-800. Those need updated something awful. They need OS. Bad.

--The 50mm macro and 70mm macro really need HSM, but optically they rock, so it's not as critical as the stuff above, they also don't really need OS. So just HSM + new packaging. I'd put these at the back of the list.

Sure, but they updated the 120-300 soon after the release of an already new released version. So who knows, may be they are updating the best sellers first.
This lens I believe is optically unchanged, just Dock compatible.
I would be happy with the current 85 with the Art changes, but certainly wouldn't complain is they make it f/1.2

I agree their wide primes need some art-lens love. They have to be losing a big third party market share to Tamrons' 24-70VC so, that is probably pretty high up on the list as well.
