First Wedding, I was a back up.

This is my first wedding I've done. I was my friend's back up. She was the main photographer. Go easy on me, but I'll take the criticism. Any tips you have, please let me know.

They look good, but slightly under exposed. Especially the first one. Also, if presenting images to the client, try to maintain the 2/3 aspect ratio. When they go to print an image, they'll wonder why their 8x10 has missing elements.

Overall, good start though. You might look into cloning out the skin blotch on image #5 too.

Seriously, no. 2 is a nice candid, nice use of the shade in no. 3 -- which wasn't the case in no. 5. I like the framing on the cake closeup.

If you are going to crop in post processing then maintain standard aspect ratios, you have cropped every single one of these to a different aspect ratio and non of them look standard, even the last one that looks square isn't quite square .... this would make them a nightmare to print if you gave the couple a set of these.

1. Underexposed and unfortunately the bride is wearing the persons head behind her like a hat.

2. Nice fun capture.

3. Nice candid capture.

4. Nice shot, unfortunately the girl is wearing another persons shoulders which spoils it somewhat.

5. Not very flattering light, lots of hot spots and shot from a low angle, the flowers look blown out and it looks like its been processed different to the rest.

6. Underexposed and a wider crop is needed to tell the story of what they are doing which is presumably dropping petals ?

7. Underexposed, craziest crop of them all.

8. Not very flattering light, the bride is looking at someone else, the guy has a white post growing out of his head and you have chopped his hand in half.

9. Underexposed, 2nd most crazy crop of them all.

Number 5 looks like you pulled down the highlights majorly on a very over exposed photo, making it look dull and flat

The indoor shots looks like you need to use a bounce flash as they also are flat..

The outside ones you need to put them in the shade so the lighting is even

Also a longer lens might be good.. With a short focal length and no bokeh, they kind of look like snapshots

Thanks so much everyone! The venue had really bad chandeliers that were turned down half way. It was also my first time using a flash for pictures. But I didn't realize that cropping them would make prints turn out bad. Thanks for all the tips.

No worries., it looks like your using on board camera flash.. Invest in a 430ex2.. IMO its the single best thing you can have for indoor (and outdoor) photography

All good but slightly underexposed in my opinion, better positioning would of also helped in some of them. Try some off or on camera flash to act as a fill light

I was using the Canon 420ex flash.

Regarding non-standard aspect ratio, they don't need to be hell to print. If you have a high quality rotary cutter and a good eye.

Haha. Sounds like too much work, I think I'll just stick to standard aspect ratios from now on.

Lol... if that's a serious comment then I would suggest you think about it a bit more because its bonkers.
