So I am trying to decide if it is worth keeping my 60D. I don't really use it anymore now that I have a 5D Mark III. So I am kind of turning to you guys for some input/opinions.

Reasons to keep 60D:
Would be nice to have as a backup body
When I go places to take pictures I can easily have 24-105 on 60D and 70-200 on 5D3.
I can get further reach on the 60D using 70-200 @ 2.8

Reasons to get rid of 60D:
I could get a 50mm 1.4 to replace my 1.8
I could get an extender for the 70-200 but would loose two stops so it would be 5.6 @ 400mm
Business may not work out for me and go back to just a hobby
As of now, I don't really use it

The three biggest things for me making me even question getting rid of it is having it as a backup in case something goes bad with the 5D3, the extra reach would be nice at times, and having two bodies is a nice piece of mind.

What do you guys think?

Sell the 60D, the 18-200 and the 50 1.8. If business picks up, buy a second 5D3. In the crunch of a camera failure, do you really want to re-learn the specifics of handling a 60D? On the fly?

I cant really help, other than post my own experience/feelings.

Im going through the same thing with my 60D, and those reasons to keep it are what made me keep mine, until now. Ive not touched it since getting my 5DMKIII 8 months ago, although my kids use it occasionally. In fact i went and brought a kit lens for it, just so they weren't tempted to use my 24-70 on it.
I cant see me ever taking two cameras out, and while i do miss the reach of a crop camera ive still not bothered using my 60D, so i gues i can live with that now.

Im going to sell mine and buy a mirror less camera. This will work as a back up (although ive never needed one before) and also will take over as my "take to work" camera. I do have a Canon S110 but its not in the same league as a larger sensor camera, so that not ideal as a back up and i dont bother with it unless i dont have a bag with me.

I dont like having money tied up in things i don't use, but if i get the smaller camera i know i will use it, so it makes sense to sell the 60D, to me.

Unless you're shooting professionally having a backup isn't really necessary and if the 60D is not being used I would say sell it

I'd have the 24-105 on the 5DIII and the 70-200 on the 60D. If you put the 24-105 on the 60D you lose out on the wide end, and you only have about 30mm more reach on the 5DIII (105mm APS-C = 168mm equivalent FOV on FF).

I like having a backup camera when I'm on a photo-specific trip, just in case, and to minimize lens changes. It also makes a nice loaner camera.

If you are truely in business, a back up is a necessity.

This is the reason I kept my 7D after purchasing a 5D3. While the 7D does not get used much, there are times having a 2nd body on trips is very handy. I keep a 100-400L mounted to the 7D for wildlife, and either a 24-105L or 17-40L on the 5D3 for landscapes.

When I take only one camera with me, it is always the 5D3. However, the 7D is still useful enough to keep. Of course, I do not need the cash in order to buy anything else, which makes the decision a lot easier.

Yeah, that is the biggest thing that makes me want to keep it. I am trying to have a small business.... but still not sure how it is going to work out. It's hard to say. I won't be doing any weddings though :P. I think I am just going to stick with portraits.

Regardless of the size of the business, if you're taking money for photography work then you need a backup imho.

I was in the same boat as you . Having the 60D and upgrading to the 5D3 I ended up giving the 60D to my wife so she had something to do on my photog adventures :)
