I just got this lens yesterday.

What are the generally-known "weak points" of this lens? What flaws should I be pixel-peeping? F2.8 performance? Vignetting? 70mm sharpness?

You should not be pixel peeing anything.

If it isn't visible without pixel peeping, then it isn't a flaw in the first place.

Aside from price and the Tamron 24-70 VC, not much.

Why look for faults in a lens you've just purchased, surely you would of looked at faults before purchasing?

Vignetting wide open (easily correctable). Other than that, its a rather flawless lens.

I honestly have noticed no real flaws. Sharp end to end, although 24mm is better than 70mm. Just watch for any major decentering (like with any wide angle) and you are good to go.

I love this lens, I am a pixel peeper and aside from vignetting wide open at 24mm there are no flaws.

I probably should NOT have to say this, but, for that price you shouldn't have to hope.

This.

To me, this is true for most lenses. I am an engineer in the computer chip industry and I know what precision QC means. To me, having a several hundred dollar lens with suboptimal optical performance is simply not acceptable, leave alone one that is almost 2 grand. If there is significant copy to copy variability, the manufacturing line needs to be fixed asap. And regardless, NO lens that is not dialed in to a gnat's eyebrow should leave the factory.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Why did you buy this lens in the first place if you are looking for issues. ???

It doesn't matter what the lens costs. Things can still go wrong in the last stages of the quality assurance steps at the factory or during the delivery chain.

If you buy a car for a million $$$, you still have to take a walk around the car and check that there aren't any unexpected scratches or dents from someone having had an oops moment.

Yes, there is this guy at the Ferrari factory that walks around the car and looks for issues before the customer gets to see the car. But that doesn't mean the customer shouldn't do the same.

I agree, no one should be pixel peeing...it sounds really painful. ;) :D
