It's selling for a premium because of the black paint, but all collectors know that this detracts from the value, not enhances it!

And if you aren't a collector, wouldn't you be better off with the 200/2 whereas Canon will fix it if it breaks?

I don't know if that price is a premium in the current market. It seems any 200 f/1.8 sells for $4k or more, unless it is very beat up.

The price of 200 f1.8 should around $3200 or less for Good condition. I saw few copies of 200 f1.8 sold on FM, craigslist, and ebay for $3200-3400. Pristine condition should sell for $3600 but not $4000

Missed out on an a New 200mm f1.8 last week $3825. Was a sad day at my house.
