Can someone walk me through the process.

How does your catalog files get tranfered over, so it can still see files out on the drive you have them on.

I run a OS on C drive which is a SSD, where also LR & PS resides. I have my files out on D drive which is a HD

Thanks for looking.

Happens automatically. I think the LR4 catalog gets duplicated and gets renamed as LR5 catalog with its own directory, etc. The LR4 catalog is retained and is not deleted, as is the program. I know this because I accidentally launched LR4 and was wondering why my latest edits were not showing up, the reason of course being that the edits were in the LR5 catalog.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

When my LR5 catalog automatically brought in all the folders from the from the LR4 catalog it did so without the edits. In LR5 I did "Import from Catalog", selected the LR4 catalog and chose the 'metadata only' option (i.e., without "negatives") and all my old edits were applied.

Some of it depends on your current settings. Laura Shoe has a video to explain the details. See it HERE (external link).
