image in Office doc causing a problem

I have an on-going document (Apache OpenOffice.org 3.4.1) where we record a photo and a few words on each car we have ever owned. I've finally got around to sorting out an sRGB jpeg image of roughly the right size but when I copy and paste it into the document it has this horrible red caste.

Any ideas about what's causing it? I don't see this anywhere else, just in the office doc.

You can certainly do this if you want, but I can't see how it could happen without you knowing. Somewhere in Office are color adjustments for the inserted image. (In LibreOffice, it is on the Picture toolbar, Colors fly-out - not sure where it is in OpenOffice). If I select an inserted photo, then drop the Green and Blue amounts to "-100%", I get a picture that looks like that... so check the color settings for the inserted picture.

If it isn't that, I have no idea. Is there a color profile attached to the image?

Here is possibly what you mean. It pops up when the image is clicked on. However I've played with the channel percentages and while it changes, its hardly right.

If those are the settings when the picture looks all red, then no, that isn't the problem. (Except for the 8% brightness, those are the normal defaults.) Could there be a color profile attached to the image, perhaps in a format (like ICC v4) that OpenOffice doesn't understand?

I've absolutely no idea. Its a bog standard sRGB JPEG produced from my aRGB TIFF original, at least that's what I thought I was doing!

Upload the JPEG image somewhere and post a link, let people take a look at it?

Try converting again from your aRGB TIFF to JPEG, making sure the settings are what you want?

Paint the car red and use the picture as is?

Did you try removing that image & then reloading it?

This is not the reason for the red color, but as a side note, why Adobe RGB? Word processors are not color managed, of course - why would they be? - and the majority of readers will be using sRGB-like monitors.

But the JPEG image isn't Adobe RGB. He did write:

And it isn't the TIFF file that he inserts into the document.

I routinely use Adobe RGB for my images, but this is not, its sRGB.

But maybe I'll redo another and dump this one, just to see if the second attempt gives the same result.

Covert to PNG and insert. Let us know if that helps. (I use LibreOffice which is similar.)

Panic over, but many thanks to you all for offering possible options.

I'm still in the dark about what caused it, but I reprocessed the JPEG and dumped the first attempt and second time around its fine, loaded into the document like a dream.
