WoW! Amazing photo. Must have been tough to watch but snakes have to eat too. Hard to believe a snake of that color on open branches was able to get an adult bird like this. The bird must have been very preoccupied.

BTW, this is one I'd submit to National Geographic.

Wow is right! Glad I don't have snakes like that in my area. I'm assuming the snake blended in with the branch for the woodpecker not to have seen it. Then again, I can often walk right up to Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers when they are eating. Neat image!

Wow I feel sorry for the bird. I am not a fan of snakes. I would have wanted to save the bird!

Great catch. Could it be a Yellow rat snake...Do you have them in Canada, if that's where it was taken?

Thank you everyone for you comments....

The snake is a yellow vine snake. Not 100% sure. Event happened in-side the rain forest on the island of Roatan, Honduras.

Now thats what I would call a "Kodak Moment" or should it be now a "Canon Moment". Great capture all about being in the right place at the right time . Great Shot Alfred.
