Remarkable camouflage, Pale Tussock moth (Calliteara pudibunda)

Nature never ceases to amaze me!

This UK moth is virtually invisible against the Silver Birch tree

No fancy lighting, just an image showing quite how well camouflaged this moth is against the backdrop of its host plant

The dark lines mirror the lines on the bark and the speckling over the rest of the wings is almost identical in colour and size of that of the bark

The second shot, side on, shows how the shape melts into the tree too, with the furry legs softening the transition further

Canon 7D, tripod mounted, with a canon 100mm macro f/2.8L lens
