When printing from Lightroom to a Canon MX892 printer, what DPI should I set it to in the Print module? 300 dpi or 600 dpi ?

According to the printer specs, the maximum color print resolution is 9600x2400 dpi and 600x600 dpi for black prints.

So I am assuming that the nozzles are capable of 600 dpi prints.

Is my assumption correct? Or am I totally out of my mind?

If the native ppi of the image after cropping (if any) is more than 300 ppi for the print size (pixel dimensions divided by print size in inches), set 600 ppi in the Print module; if it is less than 300 ppi, set 300 ppi - according to recommendation by Jeff Schewe.

The way I understand it, 300 or 600 is a tradeoff between tonality and resolution. Personally I'd use 300 as the best compromise. For an Epson injet I lean towards using 288 or 360.

Bob, how is it a trade off between tonality and resolution? Can you explain?

The following site gives some details regarding how to pick the correct resolution to ensure the printer isn't interpolating and some information regarding how tonal range reduces as what you set for printer resolution increases:

I do recall seeing a pdf by someone else covering the same information. Not sure if I can find it again, but if I do I'll post a link to it.
