OK, for those that want to do this with me, I took several shots of my granddaughter tonight at a very important to her, dance recital. Problem is most times she is in the bad lighting zone... So I would like to post shots up as I edit them and get some true feed back on them....

NOTE: don't spare my feelings if a shot is bad I want to know, this is about my GD :)

First meet my GD Makayla:

What kind of processing are you doing to them?
Can ya post the first one without processing? I'm curious of what it looks like to start with.

yes ...straight out of camera...no processing.
I was wondering how you're processing them.

#1 weird - whites of the eyes too bright, face skin too blotchy
#2 she's in shadow, you could try to brighten her and hold back on the other two.
#3 her outfit is lost in black - probably not much to be done though.
#4 crop in tight and brighten her hair

#1 SOC, had to use on-board flash as your not allowed to bring external flashes in (or use them during the show)

I was wondering what you were doing to edit them.
I think you may be adding contrast...which ya don't want to do with these.

I tried to work with the first image that you posted and I couldn't do a thing with it.
So I then tried the original photo. I came up with this.
I moved the levels first to brighten it....then I did a color balance , and brightness and contrast to lower the contrast a touch and then another brighten. a noise removal. I also did a hue adjustment that changed a couple of things on her shirt so I had to paste the hued layer over the unhued one and erase her shirt to the un-hued layer.
Hope that made some sense.

Edit to day: I typed that I adjusted the levels up there ^...but I did a curve adjustment..not a levels adjustment.
