Thanks everyone for your interest and compliments. Just for the sake of completeness, here is out of camera version, plus, the shot that was one click before this one. As you can see, pretty low key, not much room for contrast or saturation enhancement. As to the prior shot, I love the little ripple where the wing had touched, but I don't care for the somewhat oblique view of the bird.

But where I really had to work was the sharpening. Since I only had my "walk around" 28-135 on, I knew that I may end up cropping significantly. Keeping that in mind, I set about carefully sharpening as best I could. I think I ended up pretty good there, as these 100% crops show. When I go to process it for printing, however, I will watch the sharpening artifacts as well as some of the shadow detail lost when I brought up the contrast.

Maybe move the bird a little more off center?
