Hi

Is the Canon f/4 24-105mm kit lens/white box lens which many are selling on e bay the same quality as one new in a Canon box ?

They certainly are cheaper, just wondering as I had heard/read somewhere they were inferior ?

Thanks :)

No, they are the same lens. I have two of them and they work perfectly.

Yes, they are the same lens in a different box.

"White box" lenses were part of a kit, and because Canon sells the lens cheaper when bought as a kit, some retailers pull the white box lens out of the kit and sell it separately to make a profit.

A "Red and White box" lens was sold as a separate lens on it's own and generally costs more, but the price is also affected by the type of warranty that it comes with.

There is another complication though.......

Either "white box" or "red and white box" could be full USA warranty or "grey" market warranty.

Grey market lenses are cheaper because they don't come with a warranty card and are not supposed to be sent to Canon for warranty.
