Does anyone sell their work on Etsy.com? I was wondering how you sell it, just a print?, matted? framed? and do you print your own photos or use an outside source? and it you keep a readily available stock of photos to ship? Hope someone can give me a little insight. Another question is do I need a State Tax ID to be apart of a craft or art fair to sell my work at an event?

Im better behind the lens then in front of it.

I did a craft fair last year. Sold only 2 prints, just enough to get my booth money back. Another photog that I know did the same fair and did not sell one print and she had a lot more stuff. The third photog that was there probably did pretty good because he was doing "take your pic with Santa" going on. In short, I think we had the wrong type of crowd. Not a big deal in my book, but I won't do this particular event again.

Craft fairs are pretty awful. A regular art fair will draw a more viable crowd. The rules of the fair will dictate what sort of tax ID that they require. Some will let you go commando, some are more stringent about collecting state and local sales taxes.

Don't waste your time on Etsy. They have been changing their business model for about two years and now greatly de-emphasize art. Etsy is mostly crafts, clothing, accessories, trinkets and the like. I sold there and made a profit. But the time expended uploading, maintaining, etc. was not worth it. Here is my old etsy shop (external link), which is now closed:

Yes have to agree with this. It's turned very arts&crafts now.

To me, Etsy is like an extension of Pinterest (not literally). Pinterest has TONS of crafty type things and shows you how to make it. Whereas, Etsy is full of people making those items and selling them to those who don't have the time or desire to do it.
