Great price!

Do I hear 70D knocking at the door?

DSLR cameras are getting so freaking cheap. 5 years ago you would have been happy to get the base level Rebel for this price.

Indeed! What pisses me off though is that somehow the high ISO performance of these lower end cameras seems to have plateaued.

Now I could be wrong, but I was assuming that with each successive xxxD and xxD launch, the high ISO performance (RAW) was getting better. I pointed this out to one of my colleagues and was in for a rude awakening when I realized that not much has changed.

Features come and go, but somehow higher ISOs on lower end bodies seem to be stuck in time.

Thank god for mirrorless systems/consumer larger sensor cameras, bringing in some swift kick in the nuts.

Nikon with the Sony sensors are doing a better job than Canon. -?

.

Of course it has plateaued. Canon has been using variants of the same 18MP sensor in nearly all off its APS-C cameras since the 7D launched in late 2009.

Although, truly, Canon's standard high ISO still hangs with the newer sensors from anyone else. It's mainly the shadow recovery noise (At all ISO) that is lacking.

Yep, and I'm hoping the changes we have seen going from 5D2 to 6D shall be seen in the newer rebels and the 70D, 7D2.

The 7D2 could be a truly remarkable all round camera. Should be interesting.

Just to reiterate my post, I was saying the 'crop can only do so much at higher ISOs' theory seems weaker everyday with newer models launching with same sized sensors doing a better job. (I'm thinking the X-E1/X-Pro1 Fujis).

I could be wrong, I haven't done a side by side, but from the samples, that's the impression I am carrying.
