So I did my first newborn shoot this past Friday (okay, she's not really "newborn" she's 3 weeks old) and I must say they take some major patience. I know of photographers in my area that offer 1-hour newborn sessions....no idea how they do it. These took me 3 hours, a total of 49 shots, 10 finished photos. It was fun though, and I did enjoy it.

So here are a few. I'm thinking I would have prefered a darker background but all I had to work with was a whiteish blanket that I used to cover a big beanbag chair so I made due. Let me know what you guys think.

3.Mom wanted to incorporate her heartbeat bear so here it is. That bear is so awesome, it has a recording of the baby's heartbeat that plays when you squeeze it's paw! So cool!

Yes, they are harder than they look :) I do several newborns a month :) You did great for your first one. My fave is #2.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

How did you get newborn to sign up for a photoshop if it's your first one and you don't have any in your portfolio I assume?

My fav is #3. #2 pose is too redundant all newborns have pictures in such pose only a few have pictures with stuffed bears looking over their shoulders ;)

I got asked if I'd do it and, though hesitant at first, I said yes. Tada! :-D

I agree that the pose of her laying on her stomach is done all over the place but I think it's one that works most of the time. I do like #3 a lot. That heartbeat bear was so cool!

Thanks! I'm trying to secure another one but it seems like everyone is looking for $50 newborn shoots and all the photos on a disc. For the amount of work these took (just shooting) there's no way I would do it for $50! Lol!

I know, it sucks to do for $50. But to get practice in when I was first starting out I would do close to free sessions to just to practice, get comfortable with positioning newborns and adding to my portfolio. Every now and then when I'm feeling creative I still offer a free session from here and there.
