Hi,

I have a Sigma 8-16MM lens and love it. I am really enjoying low light long exposure landscape shots with water/cloud blur is there a canon lens in a L series that would be a great addition to my sigma that would give me better image quality for low light.
I am using aps-c (7D). I also want to start taking long exposures during the day time hours so I want to get a 10 stop ND filter to use with an ultra wide lens...my sigma will not allow the filter seeing the element sticks out. What can you experts recommend that would be a great performer on my 7D....ultra wide/wide lens and ND 10 stop filter

Thanks, jlstan

There is not an L lens to replace that. The closest Canon lens is the EF 10-22mm and it takes 77mm filters, for which you can buy a 10 stop ND. I have both and definitely like them (you can see I kept the 10-22 even though I use a 5DII for landscapes, just in case). It won't necessarily give you better IQ in low light though. I think there is another UWA (Tokina I think) that is f2.8 - i.e. will let in more light, but it also has a bulbous front element.

You could possibly also rig up a filter system for your current lens (or other one with a bulbous front element)- Fotodiox or Cokin X-pro systems are available that some use with bulbous front element lenses (i use the Cokin X-pro with my TS-E). I assume they also work with slot-in ND filters (reflections might be an issue?), but I don't know whether they will fit on that particular sigma lens.

Hopefully this gives you a start for asking even more questions or looking into those other lenses/filters.

The 10-22 will give you similar IQ and range, and takes filters.

If you want to complement the Sigma, then get something along the lines of a 17-50, since you said low light, or even better, the new Sigma 18-35/1.8 which looks amazing.
