Last week, the "Big Hole" on Union Pacific's Donner Pass route was closed for maintenance, so all traffic was diverted to the former Western Pacific route through Feather River Canyon, the original "Route of the Zephyr". Highway 70, the Feather River Highway, happens to follow the tracks for a good portion of the route through this beautiful area, so I (and many other train geeks) took to the highway cameras in tow. It was a bright hot day, so the shots were a bit challenging trying to keep the highlights in check, but I sure had fun. I didn't hurt that I had my new BMW to tackle the very twisty highway as well!

Very nice series! I think you made the most of that great opportunity, & I especially like #s 6 & 7.

5th and 7th are my favorites. But all excellent. Only problem is that with so much land (more than I ever see), they look like models in some of the shots. Spectacular sights captured! I dream of getting out to an area like that someday....

Good job. By incorporating the scale of the surroundings with the trains, you minimized the harsh lighting. I've seen worse on the UP's annual calendars.
