Can the G1x be triggered by remote or (even better) by Iphone? It would be so cool if I could control all functions remotely.

I have dabbled in KAP (Kite Aerial Photography) and would love to have more quality shots in a camera that can be controlled from the ground without having to build a big rig.

This is stuff I've shot before with other cameras (shooting blind).

Thank you. bw!

You can wirelessly trigger the G1X, but I don't believe you could control the functions. I'd suggest to set it to P mode and auto ISO (100-1600). I have a Yongnuo RF-603C wireless remote, but I'm not sure if the shot at the beach would still be in range to trigger the camera.

How about running an Eye-Fi card? Are any of you doing that? I'd love to be able to take pictures with the G and have them go straight to my cell phone. Fun stuff.

From the manual

About Eye-Fi Cards

This product is not guaranteed to support Eye-Fi card functions (including wireless transfer). In case of an issue with an Eye-Fi card, please check with the card manufacturer.

Also note that an approval is required to use Eye-Fi cards in many countries or regions. Without approval, use of the card is not permitted. If it is unclear whether the card has been approved for use in the area, please check with the card manufacturer.

I think that's just standard legal boilerplate and so sort-of implies that Eye-Fi cards will work just fine. That's just me guessing, though, and - as the manual says - no guarantees are given.

Isn't the Yongnuo RF-603C a flash trigger? It looks a bit like a PocketWizard flash trigger too...

How do you get the flash trigger to remotely fire the shutter of the G1X? I'd be interested in such a setup provided it work seamlessly.

It's for both. I can trigger what ever it's hooked up to. You put it on the hot shoe, then run the wire to the G1X port, set up the camera and trigger it.

And there's no lag whatsoever? It'll function exactly the same as if a wired remote is connected to it?

Have you tried auto exposure bracketing with the Yongnuo setup? I'm curious how well AEB will work with that setup.

Nope, no lag as far as I can tell. I have not tried AEB, but if all it takes is setting the camera to that function and pressing the shutter only once, then the Yongnuo should work.

Can you test it for me? If it works flawlessly then I would consider buying the trigger. The reason why I asked is because I've had difficulties with AEB and my Micro-4/3 cameras plus third party wireless triggers.

I'm really on the fence between this camera and the EOS M.

The RF-603 works with the Canon G1X -- be sure to get the right cable.

Same response as pushing the shutter button. I doubt that "flawlessly" applies but it works well.

OK it works, but you can't have the trigger on the hot shoe because the camera thinks it's a flash and AEB won't work with flash. You just need to secure the trigger by different needs.

Damn! That's a massive disappointment!
