Sometimes when I focus in one shot mode using centre point half press and recompose, the camera seems to lose focus and wont shoot. Is there something I am missing. It does seem to hapoen in low contrast areas such as when I focus on a boat and then move the camera so the centre point is over the sea for example. Has anyone any ideas of what I am doing/not doing or has my camera a problem. Thanks

Does the focus confirmation indicator light steadily(not blinking) before you recompose? Does it beep(if enabled)?

Personal Function 14 is probably set to disable focus searching.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

I never have the beep on but will in future. Personal function 14 is set to disable. Unfortunately I dont have driver discs for this. Now begins my search for these. Thanks for the quick replies

Hmm. Perhaps your technique is bad. If you do the focus-recompose dance you need to make sure you stay half-pressed on that button. Also keep in mind that it doesn't work in AI Servo. Mark IIs also have fairly spongey buttons so I usually choose my focus point instead.

You could be correct. I never had this trouble before though with any other camera. I will enabke the beep to be sure and try hunt down sone siftware to change the personal setting. Thanks again

I didn't really either. Even my 30D had a more defined half-press. The 1D II portrait button is so mushy I don't even have it enabled.
