I was a few feet above the top of an 8 ft step ladder shooting the dominant territorial male Anna's hummingbird. While focusing on him, another male came in. Usually he immediately takes off and chases intruders away. For this one he never left the perch. He is the bird on the left. All he did was fan out his gorget and kept it aimed at him. It must have been intimidating enough, because the intruder left. Now for my problem and fix. As I was surprised to see another bird suddenly come into the view finder, I knew I didn't have time to change settings. My depth of field was to shallow to get both birds in focus. So, I opted to quickly put the focus on each in different shots. After I was through shooting, I started thinking about this situation and remembered I have Photo Stitch, which I have never used. ( was thinking of using it for scenic panoramas) This is the result from my first use.

Show-off!:) I could probably do that.....after 6-8 years of trying and asking about 1000 questions! Very well done, Rex, and well thought out.

That turned out pretty nicely Rex, and I'll bet was a hoot to watch live. Good for you to remember to get IF images of each individual. Love the colors on the "intruder".
I don't know if you're privy to Photoshop, but there's a function (who's name escapes me) which allows combining two focal planes of the same image area into one super-DOF image. Haven't tried it myself, but I don't remember a prerequisite of computer genius to use it :)

Thanks, Steve. I have an old Photoshop and there is a lot I don't know about it. Maybe it's there.
