i just upgraded from the Sigma 24-70 DG to the Canon v2.. and sharpness just reached a whole new level!

at the same time, i value VC a lot, for two reasons :

1. i drag the shutter for some motion shots (usually at 1/5s)
2. to compensate for 5d2's inability to manually fine-tune their Auto ISO function.

for users who have experienced both lenses, how do you feel about the drop in sharpness/color/contrast from the Canon v2 to the Tamron? I already know how good the Canon v2 is, but i'm not sure whether the Tamron can also live up to my expectations. seeing sample pics is a mixed bag, cos there are so many lighting conditions and skill levels from photographers.. so it's best to hear from the horses' mouth.

TIA! :)

Tamron was decent, Canon was insanely sharp. Color and contrast were similar. Canon focused faster.

This was on my 5D3

This. Tammy looked decent until you pulled it in at 100%.. Totally falls apart against the canon in terms of IQ, Sharpness, Detail. Its like comparing a 24-105 variable against a 24-105 F/4.. Not in the same league.........Canon was lighting fast on AF Focus acquire,,,Tammy was terrible to lock in low light.. Dance shots and receptions was where i really saw the difference

Same experience here. I also had two copies of the Tamron, and both developed a fault with the VC system.
I found using the outer AF points on my 5D to be hit or miss with the first Tamron, more miss really, the second was better, but the Canon is spot on.
the Tamron AF is also a bit slower, especially if using AI Servo, it seemed to not keep up sometimes.
For normal use i really cant see a difference in IQ between the Tamron and Canon, both are very sharp (as almost all the reviews confirm) but once you get away from the centre, and start cropping in, then yo ucan see the difference starting to appear.
I also love the look and feel of the Canon. Its small and compact, and just seems to have a quality about it that the Tamron lacks (IME of course).

I really thought i would miss VC, ive always had a stabilised main/walkabout zoom, but so far ive not noticed it. Im sure there are shots i could have got with the Tamron that i cant with the Canon, but so far ive not come across it.

i don't pixel-peep, so i guess it's still pretty good? maybe a different question would be - does the tamron give you the wow factor? the canon ii did, as well as my sigma 35/1.4 and 135L.

AF speed - i'm not too anal about it, but can't say the same for AF accuracy. is it as good as the Canon? the Canon is really spot on 99% of the time, compared to my old sigma 24-70 which had a hit rate of only 80+/-%.. especially when it comes to outer AF points.
