Hello to all. Haven't been able to contribute much yet, but I know one day through the teachings of this group I will. My question is what software is a much have on your desktop or laptop? Such as file browsing, renaming, batch work, etc. I' m build a new desktop and I don't want to clutter it with 16 different programs that generally do the samething just have one feature that is really useable. Anyone insight on this would be appreciated.

The only "must-have" I'm aware of would be Adobe Photoshop CS2. This gives you Bridge and Camera Raw as well as Photoshop.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 is a pretty good start. Will brows, batch rename, RAW convert and allow you to PP to your hearts content. All you have to do is learn how to use it ;)

In addition to PS, I consider BreezeBrowser Pro to be must have. I use it for downloads from card reader to PC, viewing and moving/copying images between folders, and batch renaming among other things. The license agreement allows for a second copy to be installed on your laptop too.

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

I've been seeing more and more recommendations for this program. What does it do that Bridge doesn't?

I'm not sure because I don't have Bridge -- I've never upgraded from CS to CS2. Compared to the file browser in CS BreezeBrowse is faster and I much prefer the GUI. It's shareware with a free try before you buy period -- you might want to take a look at it. You can download it at http://www.breezesys.com/ (external link)

I would agree that CS2 is a must have...however, I'm not too impressed with Bridge because I've been using a product called ACDsee for quite some time that is MUCH, MUCH faster than any photo editing/browser app I've ever used. I use ACDsee as Bridge would operate. ACDsee does have a photo editor so it's good for cropping and basic photo editing stuff, but I use CS2 for the hardcore edits. PM me if you're interested in ACDSee.
