What mode do you prefer when shooting race events? This last race I used manual, and unfortunately due to the changing weather conditions some would come out overexposed while others came out great. Before my next race, I'd like to know if there is a better mode for shooting a race where the lighting can constantly be changing. Other than sports mode, is there another that someone prefers?
As always, "it depends."
Shutter priority with a slow shutter speed for motion blur.
A fast shutter speed to stop motion.
Aperture priority with a large aperture to isolate the subject.
And, in extremely changeable light, Program AE autoexposure works well to get a reasonable exposure.
As so often happens in the real world, there's never a single correct choice. Experienced photographers will choose different settings and strategies depending on conditions and goals.
