Help pick Laptop for pictures processing

I need laptop... I need something what I can use for pictures procesing

I use 5d mk III, RAW, Lightroom 4 switching to Lightroom 5 in couple days

I travel a lot and I must keep processing pictures, can't afford to take long breaks. I need LAPTOP. Can you help people ?

What should I look for? I work on PC/Windows
I need DELL LAPTOP ONLY, I'm not interested to buy other brands so you can skip advice on other, DELL ONLY please

what should I look for RAM, Processor Graphic card... give me some idea please!

Just using one OEM is going to really limit your choices. Most of their laptops are consumer grade, which means poor screen quality (photography wise), which leaves the XPS and Mobile Workstation's as the main choices. In my opinion, XPS is mostly branding, so you aren't guaranteed superior quality. So, I'd go with something in the Mobile Workstation line. Look for screens that say IPS, RGBLED or RGB IPS in the screen description. Avoid screen's that say "Truelife" because they're are very glossy. Dell isn't known for it's 'photography' laptop selection. Many people just buy a quality external monitor and use that on their laptop. An example of a good photography laptop that is light, durable, and zippy would be a Sony VAIO Pro 13 with an extra battery for longer outings. Lenovo also has a few good laptops as well for photographers.

Yep DELL only, that's my idea to get a laptop and have in "on to go" but also have a nice monitor at home that I can use with laptop...

I'm not really worry about screen on the laptop, Important thing is to have processing going, not necessary have it done 100%. Final result I'll try to have done on the "main" external monitor.

How about parameters ?? This is more important thing for me... what should I look for whats worth to invest money and where I can skip this or that ??

If you want dell, consider the IPS series of screens that come in the Precision M4700 and M6700, great for editing...

**Hint** call the "dells outlet" and get a price. Much cheaper than buying a new one from dell. They come with 3 yr guarantee, if you want longer you add more years..

In your system you would want 16gb ram, Ivy bridge processor, 256 ssd for loading OS and programs, and also get a HD with 750 to 1 Tb to store data. Also get it with the IPS screen and not a TN screen..

I think 16 GB of RAM is a bit overkill if he only uses lightroom. I have had both 8 and 16 GB in my system and seen no difference in the amount lightroom uses. It rarely will get near 4GB.

Ivy bridge is a bit broad and not necessary if he can pick up a sandy system for cheaper. Ivy is ~10% faster than sandy and I doubt you will notice that while editing. The key is to get the fastest processor you can afford but keep in mind that there is diminishing returns as you add more cores/threads. The 3770K is not $100 faster to than the 3570K in my opinion for lightroom. If you use other software I would look at benchmarks for it to see how it handles the additional cores.

SSDs are nice and I definatley think it feels faster but the benchmarks I have done don't show it actually operates any faster for importing and exporting. I wouldn't buy a new computer without one unless it was cheaper to add it myself (often the case)

I would get a quad core i7 (the processor models with a Q in the name), 8-12GB of RAM, SSD or hybrid SSD boot drive and the highest resolution screen you can.

Don't pay a lot for RAM upgrades because you can do it yourself. They often charge $150 for 16GB, but you can buy an extra chip for $50 at newegg and it's an easy install. SSD can be upgraded yourself, too, but it's a little tricky for some to get the OS imaged over.

Video card is not very important for photo editing. Whatever comes with it will be fine.

I honestly couldn't find any good deals at Dell with these specs, but that's what you want to look for.

It is important if you do 3D work or want to play games.
