For many years now, the old Eau Gallie section of Melbourne, Florida has been the home of a colony of Blue-crowned Parakeets often called Conures by many people.

My wife told me that while going to garage sales last week, she happened to be at a small park located in front of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club off Young Street, and saw a large number of Blue-crowned Parakeets in the oak trees at the park. I went there today, but although I saw several flying in the area, only one was in the park for me to photograph. It seemed very interested in a cavity in one oak tree (they nest in cavities). I plan to return when more may be visiting the park.

Great shots Ira, lucky you. We have several pet Conures but none of this variety.

These however are wild birds, descendents of pet birds that escaped captivity and established breeding colonies. Just one of hundreds of animal species that have invaded the State of Florida due to the pet industry. At least these Blue-crowned Parakeets don't cause the environmental harm that others like the Pythons have caused.
