Nice cake. I see two problems. The first that struck me is that those are really nice flowers. So right there you have a composition problem. My eye took these as the subject and they're cut off. I guess you were going for the figures at the top. I think a better shot would have been all the flowers and the figures.

The second problem is the background. And that white ribbon(?) sticking in on the right side. Whatever that object is in the background, it diminished the drama of the cake. Don't be afraid to move stuff around, including the cake if a point of view would have improved the image.

It also looks a little tilted, judging by the pleats of the curtain.

Basically, a cake shot is one of a commercial product, usually with something on top that is mass-produced by the thousands. So you have to draw on your own artistic skills to make it something more than pedestrian.

insufferably pedantic. I can live with that.

First the good news. The image is pretty, and its warm tones and delicate pastels make a nice mood. Focus and DoF are good.

These are the faults I see. (1) The verticals on the wall or curtain behind the cake aren't vertical. (2) The shot seems too close in; it doesn't show the whole cake. (3) Perhaps related to #2--the cake looks crowded by objects around it. It isn't set off by space. Most conspicuously, the white thing on the right intrudes. The end of a ribbon was there, or somebody was waving a Kleenex around? People do cry at weddings, but they ought to stay out of the shot. My guess is, things were grouped on a small table. A better result would have been obtained by clearing a space and getting more control over the scene, posing the cake as you'd pose a human subject.

EDIT: I see that joedlh made these points while I was out of the room getting coffee. So there's a consensus.

Thank you :)

The ribbon is form the other cake as for taking different angels the thing is that the other (paid) photographer was on my right at the 'good' angle after he took the pic's they moved the cake after all I was just a guest in my sisters wedding :) I used my 55-250m canon lens if I moved back or zoomed out In the view there would have been half of the other cake and more of the ribbon :)

Yeah and again with the angle, the background is very distracting.. Definitely would've helped to move over just a bit
