Im looking for a arca-swiss style attachment for my rifle so that I can mount it on my Acratech ballhead. LaRue has on, but only fits Manfrotto ballheads. Any suggestions?

Seems to me it would have to specific to your un named rifle, unless you want to start drilling holes in it.

Not knowing makes it hard to even imagine what direction to look in, is it a Holland and Holland or an AR 15 clone etc? :lol:

In the later case, I'd imagine what you could do fairly easily is a get a part/clamp that attached to the rail system to which you could mount a long ARCA lens plate easily enough. Might even have at least one set of screw / bolt holes that you could line up, then drill another. The lens plates are aluminum and easily drilled.

Generic long lens plates should run you no more than about 440.00, then it's finding the right thing to attach to the rifle.. that may well need to be a custom machine or fabricated piece, again depending on your rifle.

Also, I haven't looked at a standard picatinny / weaver dovetail side by side with an ARCA, so I don't know how far off in size they are,. but Gitzo makes a clamp that will adjust to fit damn near anything from ARCA, RC2 etc. It works just like any ARCA screw clamp, but just adjusts a lot farther. I used to have one on y monopod back when I was converting from RC2 (manfrotto) to ARCA, and it would take all my plates.

If the Weaver is not too narrow, I bet it would clamp right to a weaver or your bottom picatinny.

Now, the other thing to consider is do you really want a positive lock up clamp, as opposed to a rest? Do you want the kickback to be lifting your tripod up on the air, or forcing it back? Compared to a rifle, tripod are pretty slim low eight devices not designed for shock loads. (again, we don't know the caliber your intending, if it's a .22LR ignore this concern)
Usually people use a rest, in which case maybe what you want is one of those ARCA long lens pales attached to a fabricated wooden u shaped rest,. with soft material padding on the inside.

Also, there's this set up here;

Just needs to be an attachment for picatinny rails, where I can screw on a plate at the bottom of it. I have no doubt there out there, I just dont know where.

More like this, but instead of it only fitting Manfrotto, it fits arca-swiss plates.

I haven't anything ready made but I'm sure something could be put together using a 'generic' arca swiss rail and some Pic mounts.

BTW, while googling for this I saw a hit on Arfcom from back in 2005 with a guy doing this exact thing. Nothing new under the sun.

I think you'll need to assemble one yourself,

One of these clamps, upside down;
Mini riser with clamp (external link)
Riser with clamps (external link)
Mounting rail with 3 screw clamp (external link)

Mated to one of these;
6" Generic Long Lens Plate (external link)

4" Arcratech Long lens plate (external link)

The rail system is already on the rifle. I already have a plate I could use. I only need the attachment that goes on the rail itself, that either has the arca swiss mount on it already, or one that I can screw in my existing plate.

I'm missing something,

you already have the rail attached to the rifle, I get that.
you already have the ARCA long lens plate, great.
You don't need an Arca clamp, that should be on your tripod head (I presume) and will receive the lens plate you already have,.

What you do need is a Picatinny clamp to attach to the rail on the rifle, that you can also attach the long lens plate to.

Those are the three first links above, flip them upside down and they attach to your rail. to what becomes the bottom of the clamp, you must attach the long lens plate. Three sizes to chose from, three various clamp strengths to match the size of your long lens plate/how heavy duty you feel it needs to be.

If your dead set against drilling holes in these affordable parts to get the ARCA plate on the rail clamp,. you could go with a weaker set up that costs a lot more than what I'm suggesting, by involving a 3rd adapter clamp in between.

You'd get the Larue with the Manfrotto plate for whatever that cost, and then get this adapter;
Jobu Surefoot Manfrotto Arca Long Lens adapter (external link)

In this case, you going from Picatinny, to RC2, to Arca in two steps with three clamps inline, (including your tripod head arca clamp) as opposed Picatinny to ARCA in one step.

Or, if it's the Larues integral (and thus easily removed from the Rifle) clamp you are interested in (and I can see that as, all my options would involve tools to removed and attach) get the Larue, and drill and screw your Arca plate to that? Back to one adapter.

Mounting your rifle on a tripod (or bi pod) will almost certainly affect your point of impact and often make accuracy rather erratic depending on the surface you are on.
I used to use the Harris bi pods but had to have my barrels fully floated and actions re bedded to maintain accuracy (a close friend of mine is a stock maker). Even after this the point of impact would frequently change when using the bi pod on a hard surface, though much less than before. On my 300 Win Mag the bullet would strike about an inch high at 100 yards but at least the accuracy was the same.
Rigid mounts and rifle accuracy don't mix in my experience, but if you are using a semi auto perhaps it is not so critical?

Nice and compact and straight forward. Definitely a cleaner addition than my home made attempts! :lol:
