But now I can really say: "Did you check your F-stop dumb dumb?" after that and really laugh since that's a joke line I've been saying for years and guess who the joke was on. :P

Or see my signature...

Ranger-grip looks really nice. Temptingly nice in fact.
I'm going to crown the 70D tomorrow with a Sigma 35mm from Amazon/Adorama.
Played with video today, did a short film for a fellow backpacker in Australia who uses the same ultralightweight baking kit in his backpack. I felt the 70D was the 'video' answer to Sony's platform and I do believe that Canon has succeeded with a couple of minor exceptions.

That grip looks solid, feels solid and all the controls on it are consistent. I just can't go with a cheaper Vello.

I'm seeing a lot of noise in my shots from today. And because I shot with 2 lenses and a different setting with almost every click of the shutter it's driving me nuts!

Does an L lens make that big a difference?

Isn't the CPL the Polarizer?

make a difference with noise? no, lenses don't have an effect on noise

It just seems like I'm lacking detail on farther shots. The closer shots are fine. And I'm talking in 18mm (18-55mm) and 55mm (55-250mm) lenses.... I'm wondering if it's settings. At least I have the RAW+JPG for the shots.

It could just be my lack of experience and inability to process correctly. But the JPG's make me cringe.

I think the correct description would be it's not "crisp" and "sharp".

Meh, I'll resort to that setting later if needed. It could just be all my crazy settings so far.

without seeing pics, or knowing your settings, there's no telling what's going on...you might just be expecting more than the lens can deliver, or could have chosen bad settings

That's what I'm suspecting.

Every day I learn new things so I'm improving the settings just about every day as well. I'll be making a thread soon for the images I shot with the JPG and link the RAW. It's definitely grainy.

Here's a full crop and then a resized image to fit to show where it came from.

Guys I am in bit of conundrum and would like your input/experience to decide whether I should get 6d or 70d.

I am not a professional photographer, photography is my hobby. As I am a researcher and for that I travel a lot and I usually do a mix of street photography (35% of my pictures), Architectures (heritage sites, churches, museums) (30% of my pictures) landscapes (25% of my pictures) and bit of portraits (around 10% of my pictures are portraits). I don't print these pictures in big formats, prefer to show them on my laptop, high resolutions screens. These pictures are more of a personal memories and for visual enjoyment.

Currently, I am using 500d (as I thought that I should master this before I moved to another level) and lens I use are: Canon EF 50mm f/1.4, Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS and Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS.

I am particularly concerned about Image sharpness, Image quality and low light photography and therefore was thinking of 6d but I gather from the pictures posted in this forum that 70d is not doing bad in these areas as well.

I understand that these two cameras belong to two different world but would appreciate your input.

Thanks.

I was shooting that high as a test. Again that comes down to my inexperience and trying to learn things. I think ISO-1600 would be the max I should ever shoot with in my opinion.

And Zask, I've taken a few low light shots. They come out pretty good.

Zask, based on what you say is the bulk of your photographic interest and your concern for IQ...you should go for the 6D.

you can shoot higher than ISO 1600...but you rarely need to stop down the lens to f22...maybe if you're shooting for a slow shutter speed...but diffraction will start to negatively affect the images, and they won't be as good as f8...and there's not a single instance i can think of where you would be both shooting at f22, and ISO 3200 at the same time...you could get the same exposure at f8 ISO 400 1/80 which would give you better results

Thanks buddy.

I was under the impression I needed F22 for a bigger DOF.

I'll put that to the test tomorrow when I take pics at the festival. I don't like letting the camera select the settings so It's usually in M mode. So we all know how Those 3 settings (ISO/F-stop/Shutter) can adversely poo the picture up with people like me behind the wheel. ;)
