So does the 70D autofocus at F8?

example with:

300mm F4 + 2.0x TC
or
400mm F5.6 + 1.4x TC
or
500mm F4 + 2.0x TC

It is not rated to do so using the viewfinder...supposedly the dual pixel AF can do down to f/11 in Liveview.

Zask, based on what you say is the bulk of your photographic interest and your concern for IQ...you should go for the 6D.

Thanks Paul for your input :)

If you choose the 6D you would need to replace the 17-55 f/2.8 because it won't work on the 6D. So plan on more cost for the 6D and new lens.

Very true Spur and this financial cost is also contributing to my indecisiveness. I was thinking of selling my EFs lens, which I think will fetch me reasonable money and get Canon 6D with 24-105L kit but then Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD also seems a decent option - confused :(

:( Sad day I just lost my wife, her 70D showed up early this morning and she been transformed into something I don't recognize. Well at least she having fun playing with her new camera. It was fun to watch her staring at the battery charging and more fun when she saw me powering up her camera. She forgot that the 70D and the 7D use the same battery. Of course after seeing the camera powered up it was ripped from my hands, I'm still checking to see if I still have all ten fingers.

You scared me with "]:( Sad day I just lost my wife"

Sorry, just a bit of warp sense of humor. Though she hasn't left the computer, read the manual or let the camera out of her hands all day.

Suggestions welcome.

For those of you who are interested Gordon Lang's review of the Canon 70D is complete!

I just read the review and is it true that the leveling gauge isn't active while in live view mode?

First of all ive been lurking on here for a couple weeks reading everybodys reviews and all. Time now that i throw in my 2 cents.

In response to most peoples view on BH photo. I ordered mine from BH and all was great, ordered it tuesday the 27 and had it a mere 24 hours later in Texas(of course i paid for the ovn freight considering im the most impatient person in the world, lol). But im sure with a place that deals with that many customers, the old saying "you cant please everybody all the time" comes into play.

Ive had a T4i that i sold because i upgraded to a 7D and love my 7D. Its an awesome camera. But when i read that the 70D has in camera HDR, RAW to Jpeg processing, WIFI, creative filters, and the touch screen that i missed from my T4i, well i had to have one. So far i love it!!! Its a work of art. Love the HDR, touch screen and WIFI. I put it through it paces today, had a CAF warbirds airshow parade. Other the fact of being terrribly hungover and hotter then hell today, i think my hsots came out pretty good. Have done minor post processing, cropped and ran a color fix on some of them. But heres a link to my pics on my Flickr acct, the last 50 are from today and this camera. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31981087@N04/ (external link)

Been eyeing this thing up for a while as I have really stretched my trusty old XS as far as I can with many things that I do. I'm really debating just saying the hell with it and clicking buy it now with bill me later.

All the video AF tests are looking good. Anyone know if it translates to photo shooting in a similar fashion? For example, AI Servo with Live View?

Thanks buddy.

I was under the impression I needed F22 for a bigger DOF.

I'll put that to the test tomorrow when I take pics at the festival. I don't like letting the camera select the settings so It's usually in M mode. So we all know how Those 3 settings (ISO/F-stop/Shutter) can adversely poo the picture up with people like me behind the wheel. ;)

There's nothing wrong with shooting in one of the auto modes. Don't let some of the veteran members intimidate you, Av/Tv/P and several other modes can come in very handy. I shoot with my camera in Av mode most of the time and set my meter mode according to the scene, but that's also because the 6D lets me set my minimum shutter speed in Av mode (not sure if the 70D can do this). I find the AE lock button to be my best friend in these modes ;)

sounds like you need a sturdier deck...

This. A sturdier tripod is great for keeping the camera steady if it's windy or something, but if the ground that it's sitting on is shaking it doesn't make any difference what the tripod is made of...

I think things are starting to make more sense....

For the most part I should be shooting in a low iso (100-400) for most things.

Except: High speed shooting (1600 ish), and astronomy pics.....

Am I correct for the most part?

OHHH, does anybody know why there is no 100 ISO in manual mode??? I became custom to shooting with my ISO at 100 on my 7D.
