When using the iPad or any other iOS device connected to the 70D, can I enable a grid for compositional purposes on the iPad such as the rule of thirds?

Where did you read that the 70D's shutter is rated for 100,000 actuations?

Direct from Canon, you can very easily search the Canon site for specs, white papers, etc.

I installed the EOS Remote app for the iPhone, but could not find one for the iPad. Does it exist?

I believe it is the same app and it is compatible with the iPad. When installed on the iPad I get the option to use a 2x view.

Going to be trying it out today.

And if the 70D is indeed better than the 7D in every single category, why would it even matter at the end? The 70D is newer so it shouldn't surprise anybody that it may perform better or have better features.

That's pretty much what I'm saying.

Newer doesn't always equate to better, everyone will learn that somewhere along their lives. In this case, the 70D has a completely new sensor, and much like any other electronic-related device, the first generation of a new tech isn't always better than what it replaced, however, it sets a new baseline for the subsequent releases. The 80D and 7D2 should be pretty significantly better than the 7D simply because the 70D provides a new baseline to improve upon, where the older sensor design most likely has been tweaked to the maximum.

So the AF might be better, the ISO performance might be about the same, and the features and live view/movie mode are definitely better, and as a general average, it is safe to say that the 70D is better overall. However we can pick apart certain aspects to show where it may not be better and invariably we will, and the discussions will ensue over the next year. :)

I agree. I get the sense that some 7D owners feel threatened by the 70D like their camera is no longer any good. So they have to keep defending it against the 70D. I have a 7D...got it last month refurbed. I'm happy the 70D has such cool improvements. It signals an outstanding 7D2 to come. :D

All I ask is low light performance approaching 6D levels. :D

^ Didn't you know that any time a new camera comes out, it immediately makes the older camera utter garbage, even though it was state of the art just a couple of years ago and more than capable of exceeding the skill level of 99.99% of photographers? ;)

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

4 years newer, I might add. That's a long time.

I thought the 7D was the first to use Canon's 18MP APS-C sensor though? I.e. it too was the new baseline, to be subsequently tweaked. Case in point - if pushed hard I found the 60D to exhibit less shadow banding than a 7D, despite having ostensibly the same sensor.

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

I need the 70D to be worse than the 7D, so that I can get my 7D sold... :)

Then I don't care if the 70D is 20x better than the 7D. :D

Sooooooooo.....with that in mind......

I hear that according to back to back tests, the 70D has 16.8% more noise when resized down to the 18mpx size, the AF with mirror down is actually a bit slower overall, and sometimes throws errors, and that movie mode is now restricted to just 5 minute chunks.

The 7D doesn't have any of these problems, it is so much better!!!
