Thanks, Frank.

I wasn't clear. I didn't mean the specs would change but the communication of them might be updated. I just checked again to see if anything had been added to the specs on the Canon USA site and it remains the same.

I'm not suggesting AFMA isn't on the 70D and that ISO isn't selectable via 1/3 steps.... just that these aren't mentioned on the "official" Canon spec "sheet".

Frank,

A question. If I recall correctly, you own both the 60D and the 7D...Did you buy the 60D first and then add the 7D for birding etc? I'd be interested in the story behind your purchases, if you're up to it.

I dunno why, but changing the various AF modes on the 7D has always been a blind spot for me. Perhaps it's from the trauma of having to read the manual on the very first outing with it, because I couldn't find how to switch to AF + Expansion mode.

Uh oh, we have just created an AF-ing monster!

That option is simply great, when I am birding, I can go to spot AF for those sitting in the trees behind branches, etc, and then when swallows are darting around, I can go with any of the zone or expansion modes, etc. all without taking my eye out of the viewfinder. If Canon decided to make that button no longer a Mfn button but a dedicated functional button, it makes sense they chose this mode. The things Canon does to differentiate models....

I don't see why so many people dislike the 70D, Its looking a lot better than the T3i, T4i, T5i, 60D & 7D in my opinion. Just for the ISO performance alone, It's going to be a lot better. The only thing that sucks is no 60 FPS in 1080p.

The Camera's i mention need a proper upgrade, Even the 7D. The ISO performance in those Camera's are very dated.

This is looking like a Day one Purchase for me. and it seems like they nailed the Auto Focus for Video.

Oh that was going to be my Question, Is it still a 60D build body? Plastic? or back to the 50D roots? Looks Plastic by looking at screenshots.

You lose a little in the area of fps and more in burst limits too, and the verdict is out on AF performance. However, I can see your point, if high ISO is the single largest factor a person has, but wants all the features of the 60D, 7D, and T5i all wrapped up in one APS-C package, the 70D works. (until/if the 7D2 comes out )

I am pretty sure that it is a plastic body by looking at it. If it is a magnesium body built like the 7D then NO brainer for me. I would preorder in a heart beat.

I've gone from 20D - 40D - 50D. Then I bought a 7D but kept the 50D. A while after the 60D was launched I bought one to replace the 50D - as a backup but also when I wanted to take advantage of the flippy-LCD.

Same material as the 60D.

My 60D looks almost brand new after 2 years of regular use. The plastic doesn't scuff, no bright scratches in the paint, it's extremely durable. I don't get the stigma against it other than people who haven't used one for a while.

I went to Best Buy Today to hold the 60D and it felt so much better than my 600D. It's more solid. I would refer the 7D build but 60D is just fine to me.

You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at it, even the 5D3 is coated with plastic.

The swivel screen is very handy for LV photos and video, especially conditions where you just can't get your head directly behind the eyepiece comfortably (or at all).

The screen on my T3i looks just as good as when I bought it. If you are concerned about snapping off the screen due to abuse, you might want to also be careful of that cylindrical thing mounted to the front with those round pieces of glass within - I hear that can be damaged by abuse too.

And if you don't want to use it, and you are truly paranoid about dust and dirt: if you buy a camera with a swivel screen, then stow the screen (outwards, I presume), get some black caulking and seal it up permanently. Now it is just what you want.

Apologies for the sarcasm, but I really don't understand people who say "I wouldn't use that, so it shouldn't be a feature on the device, I don't care if other people would use it." Just don't use it! My camera bodies have various modes, some advanced, some not, that I have chosen to either not use or haven't explored yet. Our cameras come with CA and Green Box modes, and I bet you don't use them.

IMHO, YMMV, obviously,

shinksma

Well, I still think that it's the weakest link of the camera and it also kills a bit of the looks of the camera imo. I simply don't fully trust the durability of it (even though I'm very careful with my camera related stuff). But the fact that it's the weakest link and that it can get damaged easier than the other camera parts, gives me a somewhat unpleasant feeling.

Indeed, I don't use CA and green box modes. However I did use such modes exclusively on my previous camera (Powershot A40), but made sure I had enough knowledge before buying my 550D so I could totally ignore these modes.

And why shouldn't I have the right to prefer a fixed screen instead of a swivel screen? I gave you my, in my opinion valid, reasons. You can also look at it the other way around. Because you and some other people want a swivel screen, Canon should ignore the people who want a fixed screen? Hell, using a fixed screen would even make the camera cheaper.

I seriously doubt they'll be changing specs this late in the game.

Try the European Site (external link) - it seems to have more info. Including, under the 'Specifications' tab, confirmation of AFMA and 1/3 stop ISO control.

Why is the euro site so much nicer than the US site? The US site looks like something from geocities from the 90s. You'd think they would want to overhaul it.
