I like taking shots of my kid at soccer and I like taking video clips too. I refrain from video all the time because of the lack of continuos AF in this type of environment. I would probably use the video feature a lot more on the 70D. So if you were go on to canon's web site and buy a new body today, would you choose the 70D for $1199 or the 7D for $1499? You'll get no argument from me that the video on a DSLR is useful if you want to occasionally shoot video and don't want to lug around a dedicated video camera. However, that said, camcorders these days are small, so the burden isn't what it once was. "There are some things that money can't buy, but they aren't Ls and aren't worth having" -- Shooter-boy

FINALLY. Oh, it will. But it still won't be as ergonomically good for video as a camcorder. "There are some things that money can't buy, but they aren't Ls and aren't worth having" -- Shooter-boy

That's just a natural advantage of a camera that's been on the market for a few years. No doubt, and even the 60D at below $600 new is a spectacular buy. It makes a tough decision for someone who wants to upgrade from an xxxd series. The prudent choice would be to get a 60D and use the extra $600 to upgrade or add a new lens, but the 70D features are hard to ignore. 70D | 10-22mm ƒ/3.5-4.5 | 17-55mm ƒ/2.8 | 50mm ƒ/1.4 | 70-300mm ƒ/4-5.6 |

And you can get camcorders that take interchangeable lenses and use a large sensor these days. See, e.g., the Sony NEX-VG30. Admittedly, it's more expensive than the 70D, but you get far superior ergonomics for it. If you won't use a camcorder as your primary camera for your still shots, why would you use your DSLR as your primary camera for video? Agree. I've used my T4i for a little video and unless you're using it for specific things like a documentary or maybe product shots or interviews it's really not very practical. Like for shooting video on the go on a vacation. PITA. Camcorders are much more practical. I'm not saying the 70D video capabilities aren't going to be great it's just that the practicality of using a DSLR for non-professional type activities is really problematic IMO.

As far as ergonimics, the dslr with a flip screen is about the same as a camcorder. Nobody puts them to their eye anymore. Its all done with the screen.
