Id say swivel screen helps macro work

Crop sensor also means that 1:1 on a macro lens gets you a ~22mm wide subject (vs. ~35mm for full frame).

I do wonder if the dual pixel AF when using Liveview might also work well enough to not have to use MF in some situations.

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

Swivel is the no.1 answer.
No.2 is the hope (remember I'm gamgling) that the Liveview really has improved.
And I've got a crazy theory on pixel pitch and the 5x capable mp65.
No.3 is an even crazier feeling that the lab nerds at Canon research have done something
remarkable with the dual pixel that will transcend not only macro but everything between it and
the stars.
I"m not much into video but have seen what the Sony alpha platform can do....isn't the duel pixel an effort to best Sony here? If so just another bonus for Canonites.
All this love for Canon :) Truth be known I backpack or bikecamp every other week and my Nex bodies get far more use than anything else.

If the recent rumors about the 7D2 are true (same sensor as the 70D) I may seriously consider the 70D. While not expecting any real improvement in DR / noise performance, if I can get basically a 7D in a smaller lighter 70D package with a swivel screen, it may be my next camera.

(I am waiting for real reviews to come out to see if AF performance compares favorably to the 7D - if not then I may be keeping my 7D for a long time. But up to now everything I've heard about the 7D2 is underwhelming me.)

I think a wait and see attitude is best concerning the 7DI.

I personally don't see the point in it, the 7DII, unless the sensor is a lot better.

Yes looks like the 70D has inherited some ISO goodness from the 6D or elsewhere in the family.
So no one else thinks the 70D will bee a macro machine?
Did read over at MagicLantern the hopes that it can seriously write to the SD, that would be a plus, never know when the video bug might hit.

not quite what you mean by macro machine...i mean for macro shots, high ISO doesn't really matter, as the majority are used with flash...auto focus doesn't matter, because the majority is done manually

the swivel should be nice, but aside from that, i don't see much that gives it a huge advantage over any other camera

If the AF tracking in LV works really well then you might not need to MF anymore... makes sense to me. Plus, sometimes you encounter an impromptu macro shot when you're not carrying a flash, low noise high ISO doesn't hurt ;)

Truth be known I'm trying to implement a division of labor amongst the bodies dedicating each to a certain task...and ultimately avoid over shooting (like that is gonna happen) any one body ....but I did fire off 28k pics on the A77 in the last year, so they do add up.
Back to macro thinking--the best pics I've seen aren't the studio stacks but the ones taken like EverdayGetaway alludes too-outside and sudden. Liveview IF as hoped can only help with positioning and firing.

Can you say that while not on crack?

Ranger, noticed you've listed Canon-EOs-70D as active?

Got it. Same boat here. Should start a pool on anticipated arrival...since I've got a big trip starting Sept 19th I'll wager deliveries will begin on the 20th :)
