Does anyone knows what is the reason I can't preview Raw images in LR 3?

Recently I brought a 6D , coming from 50D , this is a frist time I'm trying to load it onto LR.

Much appreciate for your suggestion.

I am pretty sure you will have to upgrade to LR 4 or 5. There is a bunch of newer stuff not supported on LR 3. Your version of lightroom doesn't recognize your new camera. Also, I might be wrong, but check on Adobe's website for the final answer. Maybe there is an update or something.

The 6D isn't supported on Lr3, you can either upgrade, or get the DNG converter to convert your raw files from CR2 to DNG (adobe's proprietary raw format).

Pretty sure that's correct, you could probably use Adobe's free DNG converter but I would upgrade to a newer version personally.

edit: well I was too distracted by my TV and got beat to the punch

Try LR5 for a month free, then if you want to upgrade you can for $80. But be prepared to do a lot of reading and learning because LR4/5 is very different from LR3 in the way tonalities are handled and very much better.

When a new camera is launched (with new/different CR2 file format) Adobe only issue updates for the current version of Lightroom/PSE/PS. As the 6D was released after the release of LR4 only LR4 and 5 will support it.

You can either upgrade to the latest LR or download the free software that Adobe provide which converts RAW files to DNGs.

Also you could use DPP that came with the 6D to convert them to TIFF or JPEG.

A convert to 16 bit TIFF would be a better idea than to a JPEG.

Don't detour into file conversions. Bite the bullet and get LR5.

JPEG is fine for web or print. Granted, a 16 bit TIFF if more editing involved.

Thank you so much for all you inputs. I feel honor to be a member of this forum, very open and supportive.

I will try t read up on the LR5 and see if that is "more" than I can handle.
Also Dan Marchant, I truly appreciate for the direction to the sites. I will look into as well.

Cheers.

Just be aware, LR4/5 are a Lot more resource hungry on your computer.
You may need to upgrade your system to have the same Workflow speed in Lightroom.

I also recommend LR5, but if you just need a free solution, use Adobe DNG Converter to convert your files, then process in LR3.
