5D MK II - video issue

Why does the video recording on a 5D MKII stop recording after 7 to 10 min and you need to reset?? I have heard other say they cannot record for more than this length of time without stopping and starting again. What's up with this?? Your insight would be helpful!

I don't know about on a 5D2, but that would be a slow card issue on a 60D. Can you borrow a faster CF card and see what happens?

I think you can record up to 20 minutes on the 5D Mark II. However, you can only create a file size that's 4GB or so. So if you're recording at a 1080p HD, the file sizes reach that limit before you reach that time limit.

You might want to look into Magic Lantern (ML), as ML has a way of allowing you to coninously record over this file size limit...it will have a short pause before it starts recording again however.

There is a single clip limit of 4 GB file size. You can immediately start the camera recording once that limit is reached. There is also a limit for a single*video*clip based on sensor temperature. From a Canon manual, "the maximum recording time of one movie clip is 29 min. 59 sec. Depending on the subject and the increase in the camera's internal temperature, the movie shooting might stop sooner than 29 min. 59 sec." Obviously a slow card will not work for a 29 min plus*video*clip. So there are really three limits you can hit, one, the file size limit of 4 GB, two, the 29 min 59 seconds limitation imposed legally, and three, a sensor temperature issue that might also be reached in some rare circumstance.
