I've had good luck with the SterlingTek line. Many others use this battery as well. $23 at the link above and also available off Amazon.

I personally never use after market batteries...
But that is just me. I have 2 LP-E6 batteries, and was not able to use them up completely during a day of shooting. As of the After market ones, my friend has a 400D, and uses after market batteries, well they do not last a day.

I run a mixture of OEM and aftermarket cells, and cannot honestly tell the difference. I have both originals and Energizer batteries in my 5Dc, and after five years both types are still delivering healthy output. I alternate a pair of originals and a pair of Hahnels in my gripped 5DII and, again, can't tell the difference.

Depends where you are, but in the UK Hahnel and Energizer batteries are popular; people in the USA seem great fans of Sterlingtek

Aftermarket works the same. Just get the "decoded" ones that will still show battery % in the camera. 2800mAh lasts me all day. I haven't seen anything higher than 2800 though.

I've bought many aftermarket and Chinese knock offs, all work great.

The batteries for the 400D are completely different and have a much lower capacity than the LP-E6. They are good for about half the shots OEM or not.

So - you need to keep track of the name of his bad batteries. Why? Because there are many brands and a number of them have repeatedly shown that their batteries are every bit as good as the Canon batteries - while sold at a lower price.

So as long as people don't just look at price but do look at name too, then third-party batteries can be an excellent choice.

I've bought two additional SterlingTeks for each of my cameras and they work fine for me. I also bought a SterlingTek charger to replace a lost Canon charger and it works fine also.

Just bought one of those today myself. $15 shipped from Amazon is definitely worth it to be able to charge 2 batteries at once. (with OEM charger) Almost imperative with a grip.

I've been buying cheap knock-off non-Canon batteries for years. seemed to perform just as good as the official Canon batteries
