I wanted to see whether the grass on the other side is greener or not, and if so whether it's tasty. So I rented a D800E and compare to my 5d2 and 7d.

I got a couple UI issues which the more seasoned Nikonians might have an answer for.

The most urgent one is: can I make one of the wheels an exposure compensation wheel (the way the Canon back wheel is) without having to press the +/- button at the same time? This is really bad for me, I need to mess with this while my finger is on the trigger.

How do I turn the AF assist light off?

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

I'd suggest going to the Fred Miranda website to get good advice on Nikon gear. I have shot Nikon gear but went with Canon.

Canon 60D,18-55mm,55-250mm,50mm compact macro, AF ext tubes. Sigma 8-16mm uwa, 18-250mm, 85mm F1.4, 150-500mm

I hate that forum software over at FM. Can't see anything.

suspect it's: menu/customs settings/A8/off

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I believe if you set the camera to continuous focus instead of single shot, the focus light is disabled.
