This another grassland bird that is really numerous around here this year. It's been a strange year for birds.

It is indeed a strange year for birds, Mike; I know last year was good for dickcissels, so it's interesting to hear this year is following suit. Nice job.

Thanks Al. Do you actually have Dickcissels up in your neck of the woods? I assumed they were a grass lover and you have so many lakes and forests up there that there isn't hardly room for grass to grow. ;)

I honestly don't know; I just checked the species list for our county and while it is on the list, there is no occurrence data. We are right on the edge of stuff here, to the north and east is boreal forest, and to the south and west one soon gets into more farming country, with such as bobolinks and the odd upland sandpiper.
