Hey all. I am getting into some money later this week and was wondering what to purchase.

I currently have a 5 d mark ii and my lenses are the canon 24-70 2.8 and the canon 70-200 2.8 is.

If you had 4000$ to throw around on camera gear, what would you buy?
Currently i am thinking about buying a 5d iii, i have always wanted it but the price was very intimidating.

What to do???

Personally I would like to wrap my hand around the new 70D, and check out the focus system, and all the other little tools it holds. Only $1100.00, for all that fun and excitement. I wish that camera had the magnesium body vs the polycarb as the old 60D had. Another thing for Canon to put on the 7DII.

One other thing, you don't mention a good heavy duty tripod. You will need one that will hold up to 6-7 lbs. for your camera, and heavy EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM lens. I use a Velbon Victory, it is able to hold up to 10 lbs.

If I had your gear and $4,000 to spend, the first thing I would get is the 16-35 f/2.8 II. Of course, what YOU shoot could dictate the 5D3, instead. Either way, you end up with some really nice hardware.

If 5DIII is what your want, get a refurbed one from Canon USA. Trade in an old Canon body for an extra 15% off. I got one for the wife and traded in a 30 year old film SLR. She loves her 5DIII.

Thanx for all the insight guys. I shoot a bit of everything, mostly events for a local small newspaper and the usual family photos. I had a 17-40 but found that i was not a fan of UWA lenses. I think i am going to stick with the 2 lenses i have because they work well together. I have a good tripod already which i never use though. Also i would love to get the 300mm lens but for what i shoot personally, i dont think it would work for me. I think i am going to go with the 5d iii. I was thinking about the 6d but the lack of weather sealing and stripped down features dont sweeten the deal for me. Will have to keep thinking about this one! :)

Then take a second round :-)
I would get 5dmk3 and some fast prime like 125 f2 or 85 1.8 for portraiture with nice background isolation.
