Hi, I'm starting to put some more time in this hobby (this is my first post I believe), please comment on the photo, is the conversion to B&W OK? Composition? The photo was taken standing in Port Angeles, WA, the mountains on the back are in Vancouver Island.

Thank you for watching

It looks pretty good to me. One relatively large boat and the other smaller. The reflections are nice. The clouds are good too. Some people may say your horizon is too close to the center, but I don't think it matters here because the boats and clouds balance out.

Something seems off though like it was HDR or too much contrast added afterwards. It looks like there's a halo over the mountains.

I was thinking the same thing, and agree it is fine- the mast of the boat on the right reaching the top of the frame overrides the horizon. Seeing the water under and behind the trimaran adds to the image also. Very nice.

I'd like to see a little more room above the trimaran's masthead. Maybe that's because I'm a sailor and it's an important part of the vessel.

Yes, HDR plus graduated filter afterwards because I couldn't get the clouds right; I appreciate your comment, that is what I was looking for.

I’ll like to say that I repositioned myself to attain that, but no, just luck. In my defence, I knew that this photo was good and also that there was something odd in it (see post #2), but it was only a feeling. That’s the reason I post it, with your comments I’m learning to watch and see.

Thank you
