wondering what options i have to mount a cold shoe on some other rigid material?

i know there is a plethora of premade brackets out there, but i like to experiment on my own. Basically looking to make something out of metal or even wood, and attach a pre-made cold shoe to my contraption.

flimsy stuff will not do it.

I have used this http://www.bhphotovideo.com …06959&Q=&is=REG&A=details (external link) to mount flash on various things, one being a pole about 8 -10 feet up in the air. The 1/4-20 thread gives you a lot of versatility.

thanks, exactly what i was looking for.

interesting comments in the reviews:

I try to setup a Canon 580EX II with it, and I was in serious troubles. First, the contacts of flash collide with the shoe mount and is imposible to fully insert it on this. Second, the flash get in short circuit and don't work. Bad purchase.

nothing a little electrical tape won't fix on the second issue.

Seems like I read something about the contacts on the 580exII a while back. Something to the effect they changed the shape of them. I think mine is the redesigned version.

Bit of electrical tape will cure the issue no problem.
