So i recently sold my sigma 8-16 because i jumped on the 16-35mm and want to buy the 50L in near future. Now i am a little disappointed that i only sold it for 520$. Especially because i paid 800$ and used the lens maybe 5 times in 2 months. Am i worrying too much and should be happy for the value it brought me or did i sell it too cheap?

Too late to worry now. Be happy.

Since you already sold it, it does not really matter.

But tell you what:
I purchased a 24-105 for aprox $1100, 2 years back.
I used the lens, for a year, and then gave it to a friend. (free of charge)

I purchased a 28-200 4 years back, with a 400D, aproximately for $1650 together.
After a year I sold it for $600.

I used my 40D for 3 years, (preordered it at that time - $1400) and then when the Shutter broke, I sent it to Canon for repair, I let them change the Shutter, the Expo button, the mirror, and the CF card holder. I payed for the repair $380.
Then solt it for $175 to a friend.

So don't worry too much.

Yeah i know that its too late. But really wondering if i have could get more. I know that camera gear goes down with the price pretty fast i just wanted to know what you think about that. I loved the lens but since i bought a 6d i just couldnt see it collecting dust anymore...

If you're looking for something to regret, maybe the purchase - but not the sale. Once you have it and aren't using it, its just locking up unutilized value. Selling such gear is almost always worth it.

If your asking about the price itself, a great indicator is sales speed. If it takes only a few hours, your price was to low. If it takes longer than a few days, your price was to high.

Of course you could have gotten more. How long were you willing to wait?

Right. It's too late for anything except kicking yourself. Why would you want to do that? It's sold. You got what you asked for it. Be satisfied.

if you plan on only using a lens for 2 months in the future...it's probably not the best idea to buy new...

If that can be of any help my girlfriend recently bought a near mint 2nd hand sigma 8-16 for about 450$... Not sure you could've sold it much more.

I put it on auction 5 times and the only bid happened on the last day of the last auction..

Thats true, but i didnt plan it, it just came like that. More than that im not selling any gear anymore when i sold my sigme 24-70 too. Its just too disappointing how much worth they lose in so short time.

Okey, sounds like im on the better side. I phoned a few camera stores to change my sigma 8-16 and the 24-70 for a 50L. They would give me at most 400$ for the 8-16 and 300$ for the 24-70.

I could be way off base - but my experience that I've felt better about my transactions when I "buy smart" - in other words - if you buy smart - the chances of selling it smart are greater - it's a saying often attributed to real estate..

think of it like this...would you buy a car brand new, and then turn around and sell it 2 months later?...as soon as that lens becomes a used lens, the value drops

if you're worried about the money aspect of things, buying used is always the best way...you would be out close to zero if you had bought used, and then sold 2 months later

#1 rule of buying anything, do not expect it to hold value.

You buy an item to enjoy it and not to turn around and sell it and break even.

Seller's remorse, buyer's remorse. Would it make your day if you got the opposite of these positive comments like: you screwed up?
