Is there a noticeable difference in the noise level from the 450d to the 650d.

I'd say so, specially at ISO 1600+

Thanks, I want to upgrade to the 650d from my 450d, mainly for the 18 Megapixels and the noise, trying to decide if it's worth the upgrade.

it depends on your perception of "noticeable" and how often you shoot at higher ISO levels - 3200, 6400, etc. I have the XSi and the 60D and it's more convenient shooting with higher ISO's with the 60D however I use noise reduction software with both

i've shot with the XSi since it was new.

while i don't have experience with the 650D, everything i've seen suggests that when shooting RAW you get a maximum 2 stop difference, meaning 3200 is the same as 800 on the 450D.

some suggest less than that.

I'd say there's less of a difference than that. ISO 800 on my XSi/450D is still pretty decent. I'd say that 800 on the XSi/450D is similar to 1600 on my T4i/650D.

I still use my XSi a lot, as it's convenient for me to grab a camera out of the bag when I see something I want to shoot without fussing around with lenses, the 17-50 2.8 usually stays on my XSi and the 70-200 usually stays on the T4i. In good light there's not a lot of difference between the two cameras. I use the T4i for shooting sports where the better autofocus and faster burst rate is an advantage, along with the ability to use a higher ISO to be able to keep the shutter speed up.

in a way, i'm glad to hear that. I put off buying any of the T series because, as you know, the XSi is a very capable camera. I had really hoped that the T5i would have a new sensor, but when it came out with the same old 18 MP as in the rest of the line, I started looking at used 5DII/7D. I put that purchase off again and ended up ordering a 6D saturday night! It will be here tomorrow. I'm stoked.

i thought the in camera jpg processing might give the T4i that second stop difference, but i rarely shoot anything but RAW so it wouldn't have mattered.
